Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are illnesses that lead to significant disturbances to your everyday diet and health. Experiencing distress about your body type or size may also indicate an eating disorder. Common eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorder, and affect both men and women, girls and boys of any age.

Some symptoms you may see if you have an eating disorder are:  Consuming large amounts of food and then purging, feeling guilty or ashamed when you do eat, excessive efforts to lose weight even if underweight or restricting/avoiding when you do eat.

Research indicates that eating disorders involve a combination of biological, psychological, and social factors. Individual therapy, medications, and nutritional counseling are some of the ways that people use to recover from an eating disorder. Utilizing these supports can help you make positive changes for yourself.
